Our goal for 2025 is to start 100 weekly prayer walks across the city. Take the Lent Challenge and join us in setting Atlanta on fire for Jesus!
Step 1) Choose a meal (or two!) to fast each week (i.e. lunch on Fridays)
Step 2) Instead of eating during that time go for a prayer walk for 30 minutes. See What is a prayer walk?
Step 3) As you go, send a text to other disciples of Jesus, inviting them to join your prayer walk or start their own at praylikewildfire.com! (hopefully this is the “like wildfire” part)
Step 4) Add your prayer walk on the map below.
Step 5) Commit to your weekly prayer walk for all of Lent through to Easter.
BONUS: If you want to get a regular email with encouraging stories from other prayer walkers, enter you email in the form below:
WHAT IS A PRAYER WALK?
There are different levels of prayer walks, going from easy to more intense. It’s easiest to start at Level 1, but the goal is to work up to Level 4, where the fire is.
LEVEL 1 = Just go for a walk and pray as you walk. What should I pray for? See below
LEVEL 2 = Level 1 + ask the Holy Spirit to lead you to people to pray for and kindly offer prayer to those you feel led to talk to.
LEVEL 3 = Level 2 + pray for them and try to engage them in a “spiritual conversation,” hopefully inviting them to trust and follow Jesus if possible.
LEVEL 4 = Level 3 + invite them to a “Discovery Study”. Get their phone number and setup a time to meet.
Our ultimate desire is for God to lead us to the people of peace he has been preparing, who are interested to learn more about Jesus. Lord willing, as they learn about Jesus in a Discovery Study, they will put their trust in Him and follow Him and join us in prayer walking our city.
TIPS FOR A GOOD PRAYER WALK
TIP 1: Always start by asking the Holy Spirit to lead you in what to pray, who to pray for and where to walk.
TIP 2: Very important: *pray* while you walk, avoid chatting or talking to each other except when necessary, try to keep a spirit of prayer. Take turns praying aloud while others pray silently. It’s *SOOO* tempting to talk to each other and not pray.
TIP 3: Break into groups of 2. Even “groups” of 1 are fine (see Acts 8:26!) as you will not be able to chat. 3 at the MOST. Larger groups can be intimidating to people you come across, so I like going out individually. The smaller the groups, the more ground you can cover.
TIP 4: Fear God, not man. Be bold and pray/say what the Spirit leads you to. I *really* struggle with this, but the most encouraging and powerful times on a prayer walk are when you boldly do what you feel the Spirit leading you to do and watch Him show up!
WHAT SHOULD I PRAY FOR?
– Above all: ask the Holy Spirit to lead you in what to pray and who to pray for and follow His lead.
– If nothing else, pray for revival! When I’m walking I often pray for conviction of sin for everyone, especially myself, because through conviction of sin, we are brought to repentance. Conviction and repentance might be the door to revival. When we realign ourselves with God in humble repentance, it seems like that’s where new life is born, we are renewed and revived. In the scripture, repentance often precedes revival, and conviction precedes repentance (Ex: Zacchaeus, Acts 2, Acts 9, Jonah 3, Nehemiah 8).
– I pray for God to help those in need, hurting, jobless, discouraged, oppressed, hungry, sick, etc. Scripture tells us that He does use the hard circumstances in our lives to draw us to repentance and back to Him. Therefore, I do not believe that He always want’s to instantly heal and fix our problems. However, scripture also tells us to love and care for those in need.
– When I sense a nudge to pray for someone I see on the street, I often say, “Hey there, I’m on a prayer walk, is there anything I can pray for you about? Any miracle you’d like to see God do in your life?” If they say “no thanks,” that’s great, no problem, “God bless you! I hope you have a good day!” Or if they ask for prayer, in addition to whatever they ask prayer for, I often pray for God to bless them, to give them good conversations and laughter and joy and good friendships and healing, forgiveness, healing in relationship – because I think it breaks down walls and they see I’m on their side when I pray for specific, practical blessings that all of us want. I also ask God for conviction of sin for both of us to repent and walk in His good way.
– Finally, I pray Luke 10:2: for God to raise up more “laborers;” disciples equipped to make disciples and more people to help pray over Atlanta.
OUR ULTIMATE GOAL
If I’m bold enough, after praying, it’s really great to ask, “What do you think about Jesus?” in an attempt to have a “Spiritual Conversation” with them. If they engage with me, I try to listen and humbly encourage them where possible and bring up scripture if possible. If it’s a really good conversation and they are open, I try to see if they would be open to reading scripture together for a “Discovery Study”. TBH, I’m really terrible at doing this. But this is a key step to help people grow in love for and obedience to Jesus.
The ultimate goal of all of this is to set Atlanta on fire for Jesus. God wants to do this. Prayer walking is an easy way for us to join Him. As we get out there praying regularly, God will begin to change our hearts and help us align with him. As we ask him to, he will also lead us to people who he has been preparing to come to know him. And when he does, we invite them to discover who Jesus is in a “Discovery Study” where they slowly learn to trust Jesus and follow him in obedience. Thus, over time, we disciple them and they join us in praying and making disciples as well. Thus, sometimes, God brings about a “Disciple Making Movement.” **In this way** God has been miraculously advancing the Kingdom all over the world, mostly in the Asia, Africa and South America. We want to see him do it here.
